Location: E147-148
Abstract Information: This presentation shares an adaptation of the game, Guess Who, towards learning program evaluation approaches, specifically the history, individuals and elements of culture, cultural responsiveness, and cultural competence in program evaluation. Adapting Guess Who to teach the history of culturally responsive evaluation (CRE) aims to celebrate both the contributions of African American evaluators in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, which frame the roots of the space, and the contributions of those credited with making CRE a recognized program evaluation approach (Hood, 2001; Hood, Hopson, and Kirkhart, 2015; Hood & Hopson, 2005; Hood & Hopson, 2008). In addition to key individuals, this adaptation also features Kirkhart’s (2021) A Culture Checklist, which is a multicultural validity checklist highlighting eight elements, an element description, and questions raised. This presentation showcases the possibilities of adapting classic board games to introduce and learn concepts for understanding the history of CRE and the elements of multicultural validity.
