132 - Data Storytelling in STEM Education Programs Evaluation

Abstract Information: The field of STEM education faces the critical task of evaluation to ensure the effectiveness of its programs. This poster presentation proposes some approaches our team have employed to evaluate STEM education programs, emphasizing the power of data storytelling. By weaving quantitative findings with qualitative insights, evaluators can create compelling narratives that not only highlight program successes and areas for improvement but also engage stakeholders at all levels.This methodology not only amplifies the impact of the data collected but also democratizes the understanding of program outcomes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in STEM education. Through a series of case studies, this presentation will showcase how data storytelling has been successfully applied to evaluate various NSF funded STEM education programs, highlighting the techniques and tools (e.g., knowledge graphs, conceptual structural equation modeling, data mining workbook, etc) used to translate complex data into meaningful stories. This approach aligns with the conference's theme of amplifying and empowering voices by ensuring that the stories of all participants are heard and valued, thereby contributing to the evolution of evaluation practices in STEM education.
