Abstract Information: History provides numerous examples of harm, malpractice, and mistrust caused by racism in healthcare settings. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) is conducting an exploratory evaluation of health systems’ implementation of anti-racism practices with the potential to reduce health disparities and improve cardiovascular disease outcomes. To evaluate anti-racism practices at three sites, we recruited subject matter experts and allowed their voices to lead design and implementation of the evaluation. We established a multi-layered approach to uplift and amplify voices in the evaluation that included 1) collaborating with partners who are uniquely knowledgeable in anti-racism 2) summarizing existing scientific and grey literature focused on anti-racism practices in healthcare settings 3) engaging a panel of anti-racism scientists and practitioners, 4) partnering with health systems who amplify their patient community voices in their anti-racism work. Fundamental to planning equitable evaluation practices, the team actively incorporated feedback from each layer of voices that assisted in 1) designing an evaluation framework rooted in Culturally Responsive & Equitable Evaluation and the social-ecological models, 2) identifying effective data collection methods and 3) planning strategies to disseminate findings ensuring the voices of partners are carried forward. This presentation will describe the development of an evaluation approach reflecting the landscape of anti-racism literature and a model for layering community, health system, federal, expert, scientific, and historically marginalized voices in evaluation of anti-racism practices within healthcare settings. The model is replicable, translatable, and presenters will highlight lessons for action.
