Abstract Information: In the contemporary landscape of data monitoring and evaluation, designing an effective Management Information System (MIS) is paramount to ensuring accurate, timely, and actionable insights. This session explores the principles and strategies for designing, building, and implementing an MIS tailored to fit present-day monitoring and evaluation needs, illustrated along the way by a case study where headquarter team MIS knowledge was transferred to a country-based team in Zambia to directly control their own data. It begins by highlighting the evolving nature of data requirements particularly for externally-funded NGOs in the digital age, highlighting the importance of real-time data, interoperability, and user-centric design. The session will then outline the steps for a systematic approach to MIS design, encompassing requirements gathering, system architecture design, database development, interface design, and usability testing. Drawing from best practices and case studies, it offers practical recommendations for integrating advanced technologies such as cloud computing into MIS frameworks.
