121 - Revamp the Qualitative Side of Your Evaluation Project

Abstract Information: This session explores the practical process for eliciting authentic feedback via qualitative data during program evaluation work. We will discuss the real-world challenge of adding valuable qualitative data to enhance evaluation findings. How do evaluators decide what type of qualitative evidence to collect? What logistics are involved in gathering that evidence? Practitioners may see the value of qualitative data for better understanding the programs we study, but it can be challenging to implement qualitative data work as part of a larger program evaluation project. We will describe our experience building qualitative components into a multi-year program evaluation of an initiative to promote inclusive teaching in higher education. We will also address common challenges and strategies to overcome them.
