Cherie M. Avent, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her research spans two areas. The first, investigates how a social justice-orientation influences an evaluator's identity, role, and practice. The second reports the experiences of students and educators participating in National Science Foundation (NSF) funded projects for strengthening science, technology, engineering, and mathematics pathways, often for marginalized and underrepresented groups. Cherie is the external evaluator on several NSF projects. She also currently serves on the editorial board of The American Journal of Evaluation.
