Mx. Ysabel Beatrice (Bea) Floresca is a Research Assistant for the EDIT Program at Northwestern University. They received their Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago and their Bachelor of Science in Community Health Sciences from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . Throughout their adolescence, Bea had various experiences in youth participatory and engagement work as a part of youth advisory boards, youth-focused research, and youth advocacy coalitions. This work has carried into their adulthood as a Research Project Coordinator at the Evaluation, Data Integration, and Technical Assistance (EDIT) Program where they focus on work with LGBTQ+ youth. They work primarily on an NIH-funded project examining the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey where they created and facilitated a pilot Youth Research Workshop initiative to add more community engagement methods into a secondary data analysis-focused study. They have also supported other youth-focused initiatives including a study focusing on the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically in qualitative methodologies. They also serve as a Youth Policy Consultant in the political advocacy space with a focus on substance use and mental health care justice. As a part of their work, Bea facilitated a workshop titled, “Youth Power Building and Organizing in the Health Justice Movement” along with creating a health justice advocacy toolkit with a coalition of fellow young people working in advocacy.
