Dr. Michelle Mileham (she/her) serves as the Program Impact Manager at Oregon Zoo, where she trains the education team on evaluation best practices and strives to create data-informed programming. She joined Oregon Zoo after serving as the Project Manager for the national Measurement of Museum Social Impact study with the Utah Division of Arts & Museums. She previously worked at Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake City as Director of Education, where she connected the community to birds and nature.
Michelle completed a Master’s and Ph.D. at Oregon State University, studying Environmental Sciences and Education with a specific focus on informal education. Her research interests are in storytelling, identity, environmental education, and understanding how museums can provide the most engaging and welcoming learning experiences for all audiences.
Michelle has contributed a chapter in the publication The Care and Keeping of Museum Professionals and participated in an identity-focused writing scholars group with Knology and Curator: The Museum Journal. She served as Chair for the American Alliance of Museum’s Committee on Audience Research and Evaluation and is a current steering committee member for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Social Science Research and Evaluation group. In her free time, Michelle loves to garden, cook, and knit. She lives in the greater Portland area with her husband and their two rescue dogs.
