Lisa Aponte-Soto, PhD, MHA is the founding president of Tanoma Consulting. She provides capacity building support in culturally responsive and equitable evaluation, leadership development, evaluation and data infrastructure, organizational development, and institutional diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging. She is a Spanish/English bilingual, mixed-methods scholar trained in culturally responsive and community participatory research and evaluation practices. Dr. Aponte-Soto has over 20 years of field experience and administrative oversight in public health and education working cross-culturally with diverse populations (e.g., age, income, gender identity, racial and ethnic groups, Spanish-speakers, immigrants, etc.) to support the advancement of equitable health, education, and workforce policies and practices. She also has a background in organizational change management and organizational development that contributes to providing meaningful capacity-building and TA services that align initiatives with community needs to maximize resources and build sustainable practices.
In her previous role as the Associate Director of Community Based Research and Evaluation at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Aponte-Soto led a portfolio of community-centered research and evaluation projects to promote health equity across 13 federally qualified health care clinics. Prior to this role, Dr. Aponte-Soto served as National Program Deputy Director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Connections Program, which provided professional development opportunities to researchers and evaluators from historically underrepresented backgrounds. She also served as the Director of Evaluation at Equal Measure. Her prior work experience includes leading TRIO programs and STEM programming for youth. She has managed national federally funded programs including the National Network of the Library of Medicine, U.S. Department of Education, National Science Foundation, NASA, and the U.S. Department of Energy. Dr. Aponte-Soto is a research faculty of the Center for Culturally Responsive Evaluation and Assessment Center (CREA) and a fellow of the ACE Evaluation Network on culturally responsive and equitable evaluation.
