Katie Shammel, BA, is a Senior Research Assistant at the Center for Improvement of Child and Family Services at Portland State University where she supports early childhood education and care evaluation as a project manager and data analyst. She has been involved in community-based research and evaluation since 2015, and has conducted research in public health, immigrant rights, housing equity, and sex work. Her work focuses on centering community voices to inform data collection, analysis, and policy development and implementation. Ms. Shammel is currently working toward her Master of Social work from Portland State University, where she is conducting a pilot study to develop Oregon’s first state-specific data on the impact of sex work criminalization in Oregon. She is a multisystem thinker, fierce advocate for data equity, and approaches work with a focus on collaboration and expanding communities’ access to care. Her work with community partners has helped inform policies, programs, and investments at state and local levels. In her free time she loves to read and play with her two cats.
