Wilella Burgess is an interdisciplinary researcher, professional evaluator, and director of the Evaluation and Learning Research Center (ELRC) at Purdue University. She has over 30 years of experience in developing and evaluating formal and informal education programs and methodologies for a variety of audiences. Her current work focuses on innovations that improve learning, well-being, personal or organizational development, and capacity building. Using a context-centered approach to research and evaluation, Burgess designs and implements rigorous, ethical, and inclusive studies. She strives to understand what works, why it works, for whom, and under what conditions. By grounding her work in theoretical frameworks, Burgess strives for results that are generalizable beyond the current project. She is currently involved in over 25 active research and evaluation projects funded by NSF, NIH, USDA, DOE, HRSA, CDC, USAID, and a variety of foundations.
