Dr. Brittany N. Dernberger is a sociologist and gender inequality expert who has 15 years of experience leading research and organizational learning across academia, philanthropy, government, large international NGOs, and small nonprofits.
Brittany currently leads global initiatives to measure systems-level change at CARE and co-chairs the American Evaluation Association Systems in Evaluation Topical Interest Group. Brittany leads learn-by-doing workshops on systems-level-change with program teams around the world. She co-led a global evaluation of CARE’s COVID-19 vaccination impact in 34 countries, an innovative approach to quantify the number of lives impacted by positively changing local-to-global systems.
She regularly speaks about gender hot topics and supports clients through her consulting practice. An accomplished mixed-methods researcher, Brittany’s research has been published in several academic journals and featured in outlets such as The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Hill, and Ms. Magazine. She regularly teaches college courses and has been an affiliate faculty member at several universities. Previously, Brittany supported sexual assault research at the U.S. Department of Defense and led evaluation at the Steelcase Foundation. In 2021, she provided direct research consultation to President Biden’s Independent Review Commission on Sexual Assault in the Military. Earlier in her career, Brittany spent four years as the Assistant Director of Grand Valley State University’s Center for Women and Gender Equity, where she engaged students in exploring gender justice in their local communities and in South Africa.
