Assistant Professor
Portland State University, United States
Dr. Amie Thurber is an Associate Professor in the Portland State University School of Social Work. Her research explores how communities, social movements, and policy makers respond to contested spaces: that is, settings marked by social divisions, uneven distributions of power, and by political marginalization and erasure. Overarching themes in Thurber’s writing include the intersections of place and racism, the multidimensional nature of community wellbeing, and the need for resident-led and place-based interventions to respond to gentrification and other forms of neighborhood change.
