Dr. Teri Marx founded PLACE, LLC, an organization providing professional learning, advocacy, consultation, and evaluation supports to improve outcomes for learners with disabilities. Dr. Marx is nationally recognized in the United States as an expert in multi-tiered system of supports and special education with over fifty combined publications and presentations on topics spanning from the Endrew F. decision, addressing disproportionality, inclusive practices within the least restrictive environment, and the importance of family engagement and collaboration. Dr. Marx is a skilled evaluator with a multiyear history developing tools to evaluate technical assistance/personnel preparation initiatives and leading external evaluations for state- and federally-funded initiatives. Dr. Marx holds a Ph.D. in special education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she earned a Research Certificate from UNLV’s Graduate College and completed a year-long program evaluation series. Dr. Marx is proficient in implementation science and recently (2021) completed a certificate in Systems Thinking from eCornell University to learn emerging approaches to supporting systemic change in education. Dr. Marx is a former school social worker who worked in some of the most marginalized communities in Chicago; she continues to focus on transforming urban education through her current role as a Board Member for the Center for Success for High Need Schools. She is the proud stepparent of two neurodivergent teens, both of whom receive(d) special education/disability services.
