Litmus, New Zealand
Hello, I’m Sandar Duckworth!
I am a proud business owner of Litmus, one of Aotearoa, New Zealand’s established evaluation firms. I am a founding board member of Ethnic Research Aotearoa, which gives voice and visibility to ethnic communities for equitable and impactful policy. I am also a chartered member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and have been a world award-winning marmalade maker.
The key lesson I have learnt from being an employer and people leader is the importance of visible leadership that values diversity and fosters a positive culture. Moreover, mentoring emerging evaluators can help fulfil a sense of purpose and work on things that matter. Recognising and adapting my leadership and mentoring practice to emerging evaluators’ expectations has helped me be a better mentor and help our people succeed.
My evaluation practice focuses on navigating our disinformation, disruption, and division era. I work a lot in primary prevention across digital safety, family and sexual violence prevention, social cohesion, and preventing incitement and violent extremism.
My work in measuring government impacts and philanthropic giving has led to a journey into impact investment. I have researched and engaged widely across Aotearoa, New Zealand’s impact investment landscape and learnt that our corner of the world is unique in how government, intermediaries, and the private sector work together for social, environmental, and financial returns.
I firmly believe communities have the expertise and the solutions. Their voices and perspectives must be at the centre when measuring capital for good.
