Shriniwas (Shri), an agricultural economist and development practitioner, has over 15 years of experience in M&E of development and humanitarian interventions. Currently, he leads and supports several research projects, primarily evaluation research funded by USAID, across countries.
Before joining the Pulte Institute in 2021, Shri was a socio-economist with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) for USAID project in Nepal. While at CIMMYT, his work focused on issues related to agriculture development and food security, with a particular focus on agricultural input value chains, private sector engagement in agriculture development, and the adoption and impact of agricultural technologies. From 2014 to 2017, Shri was affiliated with the World Vegetable Center (WorldVeg), covering projects in Nepal, Bangladesh, Cambodia, and Thailand, primarily funded by USAID. At WorldVeg, Shri’s research involved testing, promoting, and impact evaluation of postharvest and integrated pest management technologiies and practices.
Before moving to Thailand to work with WorldVeg in 2014, he was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where his research focused on issues related to the digital divide in Missouri. Shri's professional career began as an agricultural economist with Nepal’s Ministry of Agriculture, where he was involved in planning, monitoring, and evaluating agriculture development projects, particularly agriculture marketing projects in the country.
Shri, a Fulbright Student from Nepal (2003-2005), holds an MS from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Agricultural Economics, an MA in Sociology and a B.Sc.Ag from Nepal. His work attempts to bridge research and policy to address global development challenges with special focus on food security, adoption and impact of agricultural technologies, agricultural value chains, private sector engagement, healthcare disparities, and digital inclusion.
