127 - Title: Evaluation of Critical Factors Contributing to the Success of Health Care Projects in Selected Sub-Cities of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Abstract Information: Though the Ethiopian health system has undergone a lot of success, a lot of health projects still fail. The established health facilities are not furnished as per health facility readiness criteria, lack basic utilities, a strong information management system, and lack health workers’ motivation leading to limited staff retention. This has limited the ability of the system to provide evidence-based information to enhance efficiency. This study aimed to identify the critical success factors that contribute to the success of health projects and their management in selected sub-cities of Addis Ababa. A structured questionnaire survey and KII approach were used. Forty factors were considered in this study and were listed under two groups based on relevant literature review and data collected. 60 questionnaires were distributed to employees and 14 key informants’ interviews with health project managers were conducted. 60 questionnaires (100%) and required interview information are well done. The results were analyzed and discussed to identify the relevant factors, in which SPSS was used to determine employees’ perception of healthcare projects in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Result indicated that the project manager should have skills in team building, strategic development, and adaptive management, which might improve the performance of the project. In the project environment, it should address security issues of the implementation sites.
Moreover, to have a successful accomplishment with input-output-impact and outcomes, managers need to be skilled in monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, resource planning, and time planning. In addition to that the development and implementation stage of the project should consider government policy and the level of employee satisfaction in terms of internal and external equity and follow an adaptive management strategy for further and continuous improvement.
