John partners with impact investors and funders to assess if, how, and how much their impact capital – investments and grants – contributes to their social impact mission and goals. Working with bespoke teams of finance, investment and evaluation experts, John designs and executes client-tailored impact management and evaluation strategies guided by emergence and system frames. Committed to helping inform the transformation of financial/investment practices and policies that impact the sustainability of our planet, John’s current work includes evaluation of three impact investment strategies and portfolios, and writing a series of impact investment stories. His past work spans the nonprofit and for-profit sectors – advising numerous foundations’ strategic plans, and conducting dozens of evaluations on a host of environmental, climate, food, and public health issues; owning for-profit companies; managing non-profit advocacy organizations; and co-directing a foundation. His recent publications include use of foundations’ full balance sheet, stakeholder engagement and impact management, public policy and stakeholder engagement, and public policy and impact management. He serves on the Steering Committee of the American Evaluation Association’s Social Finance TIG, is a founding member of and advisor to the Mission Investors Exchange Impact Measurement and Management (IMM) working group, and is past chair of the Davidson County Solid Waste Region Board.
