Yui Hashimoto is a Social Research Scientist with the Assessment, Policy Development, and Evaluation Unit at Public Health – Seattle & King County (PHSKC). She brings over 10 years of experience leading research and evaluation projects in and beyond public health, focusing on qualitative, community-engaged participatory research and evaluations for social change. She is currently the lead evaluator for the Public Health Infrastructure grant, funded by the Centers for Disease Control, which works to enhance the public health workforce and foundational capabilities.
Yui is trained as a critical human geographer, and prior to joining PHSKC, was an academic dedicated to lifting up historically marginalized voices through research and mentorship. Her research examines how 20th and 21st century urban redevelopment makes and remakes race in American cities trying to revitalize. She honed her qualitative research skills in document analysis, as well as interviewing, observing, and running focus groups with local labor organizers, staff from community organizations, elected officials, fast food workers, and mothers. While collecting data, Yui mentored 10+ undergraduate students of color to numerous awards and graduate fellowships. She brings these skills to her new career as a public health evaluator and to train the next generation of researchers and evaluators.
When she’s not at work, Yui enjoys riding her bike, running, yoga, playing with her niblings, hiking around the beautiful PNW, and finding another place to eat or drink coffee!
