Qualitative Specialist
University of Colorado, United States
Kaitlynn Walton received her master's in public health from Drexel University in Philadelphia. Before receiving her masters, she spent over 7 years working in global health working on projects in Ireland, Zimbabwe, Uganda, as well as Namibia where she served in the Peace Corps as a health volunteer. Kaitlynn currently works for the Injury and Violence Prevention Center (IVPC) at the Colorado School of Public Health’s Anschutz Campus. She manages the qualitative research for multiple projects for IVPC focusing on substance use prevention and gun violence. Kaitlynn’s work emphasizes a community-first approach to create more equitable evaluation by building partnerships with community stakeholders. Her approach focuses on authentic community engagement in research with the aim that communities are co-owners in every stage of the research process. As an academic researcher it’s important to her that we change the system that often conducts research on communities rather than with communities.
