Jennifer Jewiss, EdD, is an independent consultant specializing in qualitative approaches to research and evaluation. Dr. Jewiss leverages the power of qualitative inquiry to help nonprofits and government agencies develop evidence-based strategies for delivering more effective programs and services. Over the past 25 years, Jennifer has designed and conducted qualitative studies of a wide array of human service, medical, environmental, education, leadership, and workforce development initiatives. She has conducted evaluations on behalf of universities, philanthropic foundations, and national, state, and local organizations. She often serves as a methodological consultant to academic researchers and fellow evaluators. Jennifer co-chaired AEA’s Qualitative Methods Topical Interest Group from 2005-2016. For nearly two decades, she served as a research faculty member in the College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont where she taught a graduate seminar that introduced masters and doctoral students to the field of evaluation. She has written dozens of technical reports, monographs, and professional practice guides and co-authored peer-reviewed articles featuring qualitative methods and findings from funded projects. Her co-edited book, Qualitative Inquiry in Evaluation: From Theory to Practice, was published by Jossey-Bass in 2014 and includes contributions from leading qualitative evaluation scholars and practitioners. Jennifer is honored that AEA has invited her to offer this professional development workshop for the sixth year and looks forward to engaging in dialogue and collective learning with participants from around the globe.
