An experienced evaluator with 12 years of research and evaluation experience in college accessibility and evaluation of educational programs. She started her career at the Center for College Access (CUA), University of Puerto Rico (UPR), where she worked with students from public housing projects in Mayagüez. This experience was fundamental to her social justice-seeking perspective and furthered her work with Puerto Rico and Chicago communities.
Trained in culturally responsive evaluation by the American Evaluation Association, GEDI program, she applied qualitative and quantitative research knowledge and experience in different settings such as schools, school districts, universities, non-profits, community organizations, and foundations. Medina-Rodriguez interned at the MacArthur Foundation evaluation office and the Latin School of Chicago High Jump program. These experiences sedimented her commitment to marginalized communities, especially the youth. Emely also completed one fellowship with the School of Education at Loyola and post-doctoral work as an Educational Justice Research Fellow. She works as a Research Associate for the Education Development Center, specializing as a language specialist and evaluator with diverse projects in informal science learning and STEM accessibility.
At the Education Development Center (EDC), Dr. Medina-Rodriguez’s work focuses on social policy evaluation. She oversees data collection and analysis for La Fuerza-STEM, a project that provides tools to parents of Latinx children 3 to 8 years old to promote informal science learning at home and beyond. She also collaborates with the Department of Human Services of Rhode Island to explore the use of funds in family childcare providers, primarily Latinx women. Her work also involves engaging with youth and understanding their experiences at the AEOP STEM programs and competitions.
