Using Qualitative Data Visualizations to Promote Use and Change

Abstract Information: This demonstration will focus on methods for visualizing qualitative data in reporting and ways to promote the use of qualitative findings that support programmatic change. The session aims to present the "how" and "why" behind effectively conveying rich qualitative feedback, while maximizing its impact and utility for meaningful change and decision-making. We will share various methods of presenting qualitative information, the purposes of each, and why it matters to specific audiences. The session will cover topics such as how to make results visually more captivating while reducing volume, without losing the individuality and richness of qualitative data and staying true to the insight participants share. We will also present our experience developing and implementing a distinct toolkit/process for presenting qualitative data in a usable format, based on a pilot of working on a statewide childcare training and support program in collaboration between program staff and a state agency. By unpacking the nuances of qualitative data presentation and its implications for conveying participants’ voices to stakeholders, the session seeks to empower evaluators and decision-makers to harness the full potential of qualitative data in shaping meaningful outcomes and driving transformative change.
