Location: Exhibit Hall A
Abstract Information: The NSF-funded ECUITY (Empowering Changemakers: Urban Biodiversity Initiative for Teachers and Youth) project is bringing together scientists and teachers with NGSS expertise to develop Learning Sequences that middle school teachers and students in the urban district in California will use to learn about biodiversity and environmental justice issues in their communities. Three groups are collecting a range of data as the project progresses: researchers and external and internal evaluators. The focus of this session is on how the groups are navigating the tensions inherent in sharing data collection responsibilities while aiming to minimize the burden on participants. We plan to share some straightforward strategies and tools we have developed to facilitate collaborative and inclusive data collection planning and ask participants to share their feedback and related experiences.
