Michelle Burd, PhD, is a professional evaluator with over 25 years of experience. As a consultant, she has conducted myriads of external evaluations in STEM education at institutes of higher learning across Texas, including at many Hispanic Serving Institutes (HSIs), for funders, such as the NSF, USDA, NASA, and the Department of Labor. Clients have reported they gain clear insight about what to do to improve the health of their programs and the outcomes for students from the engagement and reporting. The focus of projects range from experiential learning to curriculum development to prepare students for persistence in high school, college and graduate school towards the endgoal of STEM careers. She carries forth knowledge of systemwide change from her early career role as internal evaluator in K-12 math and science contexts. Most recently, as Director of Evaluation Education at the Diana Natalicio Institute for Hispanic Student Success, she collaborates with leaders of the Center for Evaluation Research and Synthesis to promote effective evaluations at HSIs and expand culturally responsive and equitable evaluation practices.
