Abstract Information: Evaluation theory, while pivotal in shaping evaluative practices, often struggles to find firm footing in practical application. This poster addresses the persistent gap between theory and practice in evaluation by introducing the application of a nonlinear program theory model that bridges this divide. Drawing on empirical evidence highlighting the disparity between evaluation theories and their implementation in evaluation studies, this research endeavors to enhance alignment between theory and practice. The dissertation research presented here introduces a nonlinear model of evaluation theory, offering a more nuanced and adaptable framework for practical application. The introduction of a nonlinear model of evaluation theory represents a significant conceptual advancement. By outlining implicit assumptions and providing a nuanced framework, this model facilitates a deeper understanding of evaluation practices, thus enhancing their relevance among practitioners. Interviews with primary theorists underscore the importance of research on evaluation theory using this model, with the majority of evaluators expressing confidence in its potential to advance the field. This model not only clarifies the relevance of evaluation theory but also empowers evaluators to enhance the effectiveness of their evaluations by leveraging theoretical frameworks. It serves as a tool for advancing research on evaluation theory, validating theoretical frameworks, and supporting practitioners in aligning theory with practice.
